Then in UE4 I did animation retargetting for any UE4 animations that needed to play on IClone. Personally, I ended up leaving the skeleton bone names for CC3 which made it easier to make animations in IClone. I'm not sure you can do that with 3DXChange. It's been awhile, but I think exporting directly from CC3 lets you rename their skeleton to UE4's skeleton. You can also transfer the character to IClone, then to 3DXChange, and export from there. To export you can just do file export, and they have presets for Unreal Engine.

CC 3 doesn't have a good skin generator yet (CC 2 does, but when I last checked CC 3 should be getting it this year). Like, I get some need to segment your market to make up for, say, the cost of supporting different mocap systems, but this just feels like a clown car of upselling, side selling, and redundant functionality.Ĭlearly, good software, but just the entire ecosystem is confusing as hell, and I'd say it's almost deceptive to tout features on the main product's page that require several hundred dollar plugins.Ĭharacter Creator lets you generate base humanoid models, complete with sliders to alter the head and body. I'm honestly going to just admit that my eyes glazed over at some point.

In addition, there are two content stores, and you have to buy a different license version of every content if you want to export to anything external, I think. I'd be really pissed to buy iClone and later realize I needed to tack on another 15k to get it to export (and yes, there's a bundle that's way lower, which really just underscores why the fuck are you selling it for that much if you bundle it for lower?) After you buy the mocap plugin, you still have to buy a plugin for your particular mocap system, which can range from $99 to $1990.

Except, you have to buy another software package called Motion Live ($100) for the mocap, and then you have to buy another software called 3D Exchange 7 ($499) to export to UE4, except there's also another software Unreal Live Link ($1,490) that does something else, but it's possibly free for Indie developers who can show proof that they don't make $100,000. Does it export to UE4 or not? There's a bundle with iClone for animation and mocap. That's reasonable, right?Įxcept, it's not even remotely simple. There's a 50% discount due to Covid now, and it's current price is $199. What's not to like, right? So naturally, I looked at cost first. Not only does it look better, but according to the feature page, it can export Unreal Skeletons. I saw a YouTube video about the software, and it looked way better than Fuse. It feels practically impossible to figure out what you need or what you are getting.
